Philosophy and Objectives of the Department

Philosophy

The Philosophy and mission statement underlying the Economics programme of Chrisland University is to produce graduates equipped with analytical skills and abilities. The programme will enhance the capacity of our graduates to use simplified models, qualitative and quantitative data in identifying, analyzing, and solving problems. The curriculum is designed to help student think and analyze issues using deductive and inductive reasoning in dealing with economic matters and communicating the result to a wider audience.

Objectives

  1. Provide training in the principle of economics and their application appropriate to the type of degree concerned; single, joint and combined studies;
  2. Stimulate student intellectual through the study of economics and to lead them to appreciate its application to a range of problems and its relevance in a variety of context;
  3. Provide a firm foundation of Knowledge about the workings of an economy and to develop the relevant skills for the constructive use of that knowledge in a range of settings.
  4. Develop in students the ability to apply the analytic tools, knowledge and skills acquired to the solution of societies economics problems.
  5. Equipped student with appropriate tools for analysis to tackle issues and problems of economics policy;
  6. Develop in students, through the study of economics, arrange of transferable skills that will be of value in employment and self-employment;
  7. Provide students with analytical skills and ability to develop simplified frameworks for studying the real world;
  8. Provide with the knowledge and skills base, from which they can proceed to further studies in economics, related areas or in inter-disciplinary areas that involves economics; and Generate in student an appreciation of the economic dimensions of wider social and political issues.
