In the present globalized world, where political, social, security and economic events in one part of the world have ripple effects on every other parts of the world, the study of International Relations and Diplomacy becomes pertinent. The students of International Relations and Diplomacy must be knowledgeable on the skills and tact to navigate intricate relationships and the interactions among states and non-state actors in this globalized world. The department therefore aims to produce competent and confident graduates who can make meaningful contributions to the political and socio-economic development of Nigeria, Africa and the world at large.

Philosophy and Mission of the Department

Philosophy

The Department of International Relations and Diplomacy, being fully aware of the roles of social scientists in the society, is poised towards turning out well rounded high caliber graduates capable of taking up any responsibility in governmental agencies, non-governmental agencies and the society at large.

Mission

The mission of the Department of International Relations and Diplomacy is to actively draw the attention of its students to changes in the international environment occasioned by globalization and the responsibility in a developing economy as well as its interaction with the shrinking global village.  The Department hopes to attract talented individuals, to train and inspire them so as to increase their knowledge on the issues of professional and moral excellence that are known to be hallmarks of the university.

Collaboration

The Department of International Relations and Diplomacy, Chrisland University, Abeokuta is collaborating with a United Kingdom registered Research Institute – Center for African Conflict and Development (CACD) on the establishment of the Nigerian branch of the Institute in the University.

Proficiency in French language is encouraged for students in the Department of International Relations and Diplomacy to equip students with at least one foreign language to function as practitioners of international relations in the near future.
